Spiritual journey to Jerusalem
When one thinks of Israel, one instinctively thinks of Jerusalem and its historical sites that are very important for the three main religions. Thousands of years old, Jerusalem plays a central role in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim religions. The city covers an area of 200 square kilometres and the old city is surrounded by ramparts with several quarters: the Christian quarter, the Jewish quarter, the Muslim quarter and the Armenian quarter. This biblical mecca is an obligatory stop on a spiritual journey to Jerusalem. We are going to introduce you to some interesting places to visit in Jerusalem no matter what your religion. Obviously all tourists can visit every part of Jerusalem. Our list on this page is just a guide and we wish to present some special sacred places relevant to each person’s beliefs.
Sites in Jerusalem for Christian visitors
Jerusalem is the city of Jesus and you can discover the Via Dolorosa, the street in the old town that Jesus followed before his crucifixion. You can walk in Jesus’ footsteps along the 500 metres long street which holds nine of the fourteen Stations of the Cross. To see the last stations, you’ll need to go back into the St. Sepulchre church. You can also visit the CENACLE, where Jesus held the Last Supper with his Apostles. The Mount of Olives is where the Ascension took place and you can also visit the Dominus Flevit, which is a chapel in the form of a teardrop that has a wonderful view of the Temple Esplanade and the Dome of the Rock.
Other Christian important places are the Dormition church on Mount Sion and St. Anne’s church. Also not to be missed are the Garden of Gethsemane , where Jesus spent his last hours praying and the Pater Noster church. We must also mention visiting the Mountain church, the Visitation church and St. Peter in Gallicante. The City of David, the Davidson Centre, the Probatic Swimming Pool, the Garden of the Tombs, the Church of the Messiah and the Tomb of David are other historic sites that will take you back in time.
Jerusalem for Jewish tourists
The Wailing Wall is the main holy place for Judaism. One can also visit the Mount of the Olives, King David’s Tomb, David’s Tower, the Hourva Synagogue situated in the old town’s Jewish quarter. We also recommend a visit to Davidson Park and the Josaphat Valley which is situated between the Mount of the Temple and the Mount of the Olives. Ancient Jerusalem’s CARDO with its Roman columns, Ein Kerem, the 4 Sephardic Synagogues and Samuel’s Tomb are very popular with tourists as is Rachel’s Tomb which is just outside Jerusalem in the direction of Bethlehem.

Third holy site for Muslims after Mecca and Medina, Jerusalem is of capital importance with its Mosque Esplanade and Muslim visitors come to visit the Al Aqsa Mosque, the Omar Mosque, the Dome of the Rock and the Al Yaacoubi Mosque.
